St. John's Lutheran Church, Old South End

The tower's tall enough, but the vertical lines of the brickwork, windows, and pinnacles make it appear to be even taller.

The school is a gem. Odd that they built it to face the back of the church in this way.
If you're curious, that sort of broken-off gable is called a jerkinhead roof.

perhaps the school was built first?

I don't think it was. Even then, it would have made more sense to turn the church sideways and put the rectory farther back.
