Whodunnit?

The old Masonic Temple, on Broadway, in the Old South End, is an impressive building with a lot of good stonework. I'll post more pictures tomorrow, but this has me curious. The Masonic calipers symbol, in the arch over the main entrance has been seriously obliterated. It's too high, and way too painstaking to be vandalism. It had to be done deliberately. Reminds me of what the Egyptians at the last stages of the 18th Dynasty did to Ahkenaten's name.
The cornerstone had the same treatment. The question is, was it done by the Masons when they sold it, or by the Evangelical "ministry" that bought it?

Jeffrey,

The real question might be, Are the Masons known for defacing/obliterating masonry, the theme/heart of their very rituals and practices?

I think not!

My vote is for those who came after...

They were more likely to see the Masons as a cult/religion, which didn't stop them from buying, but would compel them to deliberately and systematically deface the masonry the Masons left behind.

But, rather that leave the masonry defaced, you would have thought that they'd have hired a mason to replace the offensive masonry...

Cult? Pot calling the kettle black, if you ask me. Looks like hell.
