You get the whole of America here: it's vast, verdant, full of promise. How can an American not have an underlying confidence that, whatever might be wrong at a superficial level, this land is capable of anything!
There are all sorts of answers to this point of view, but American self-confidence is born out visions like these.
"All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”
