Maumee River, Downtown, 1940's

Immaculate Conception Church, Old South End

The annual Old Darby Homecoming Mass will be celebrated this Sunday, at 3:00 PM. Afterward, the ladies will have one of their first rate ( And then some ) receptions. The rectory will also be open for inspection of the William F. Matthews mural.

Broadway and Logan, Old South End

I love this building and was pleased to see it getting some long overdue maintenance recently.

SS Peter and Paul Church, Old South End

Amtrak Station, Old South End

I've never seen benches quite like this.
Can't say I particularly like them, but they're interesting.

Broadway Methodist Church

This was built in 1892, at Broadway and Crittenden. Tolerable design, by L.G. Weiker. The tower was nice and I like the gables. The congregation celebrated its hundredth anniversary by being damn fool enough to tear it down. Damn fools. I don't have the full story, yet, but from what I've heard, I have nothing but contempt for everyone involved in that decision.

Erie Street Market

This is, more or less, how it looked when it was built, in 1908. There had been some urn-like thingummies on the top, and some relief carving around the top.
Edward Fallis designed it, and it was every bit as unusual then as these pictures look now. The whole place was remodelled in the 1970's.

Dunn-Blair House, Old West End

This was patterned after work done by Sir Edwin Lutyens ( who designed a good bit of New Delhi. ) at Temple Dinsley, in Hertfordshire. It was built between 1915 and 1917.

10th Street Temple, Downtown Toledo

Built in 1889 and destroyed by fire in 1948. The dome was topped by a Star of David.

Old South End Houses

One of my favorites, along Crittenden near Broadway.

Stay Tuned

More posts this evening. I'm afraid I still feel like I've been run over by a truck.

Immaculate Conception Church, Old South End

There's a good ARTICLE, at the Blade, on the William F. Matthews mural in the rectory.

Back Again

Blogging will resume tomorrow. My lung's in bad shape and my heart needs watching.
The picture's on the old Presbyterian Church, on Broadway in the Old South End.
