This is, more or less, how it looked when it was built, in 1908. There had been some urn-like thingummies on the top, and some relief carving around the top.
Edward Fallis designed it, and it was every bit as unusual then as these pictures look now. The whole place was remodelled in the 1970's.Photos: Toledo-Lucas County Public Library
