St. John's Lutheran Church, Old South End

The tower's tall enough, but the vertical lines of the brickwork, windows, and pinnacles make it appear to be even taller.

The school is a gem. Odd that they built it to face the back of the church in this way.
If you're curious, that sort of broken-off gable is called a jerkinhead roof.

Old South End Cottages

There's a matched set of five of these on Jervis, just behind Queen of Apostles School.
Dozens of houses with this design are scattered all over the Old South End, but these have a difference. They're brick, rather than the usual frame.

The oval, louvered window, in the gables, is a common feature in the neighborhood.

Immaculate Conception Church, Old South End

"Children's Garden". Amtrak Station, Old South End

This is called a children's garden, but I can't see anything that would interest most children. The odd sort of obelisk on a cart is actually rather interesting. I'll post more pictures some other time.

St. John's Lutheran Church, Old South End

I'll post more, including pictures of the school, tomorrow.

Former Rectory, SS Peter and Paul, Old South End

Built in 1868.

Home Building & Savings Company, Broadway and Segur, Old South End

Amtrak Station, Old South End

I'll presume the poorly designed mess on the left is meant to be a flag for Lucas County. It's not Toledo's. That one's quite good. Local flags designed by contest or by committee usually end up being just plain silly.

St. John's Lutheran Church, Old South End

I managed to take a lot of pictures here, today, but I'm not up to dealing with them. I'll start posting them tomorrow.

Broadway and Western, Old South End

Those are cornacupiae under the round windows.

"Refuge Holy Tabernacle", Old South End

This is really quite nice if you can ignore what's been done to the top of the tower. It's on Segur, a few blocks off Broadway.
It's in very good shape, but could use a bit of extra attention.

The windows seem to be of high quality.
Someone seems to have gotten a bit out of hand with the paint.
The brickwork in that arch is very well done. Reminds me of the doors at Immaculate Conception.
The stone arch has a heavily weathered German inscription. Appears to have been built by a German Methodist ( Didn't know there were any. ) congregation in 1874. There's an extra word before "kirche", but I wasn't able to make it out.

Home Building & Savings Company Building, Old South End

There's one of these eagles over each of the large, arched windows og this gem, at Broadway and Segur. I'll post more details in a day or two.
