"All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”

After pulling the seeds out (we roast them), I artfully arrange the pumpkin guts so it looks like they are puking.
I think it's fun, but your mileage may vary. The kids are divided on the matter.
Do any of them say "gross"?
More or less: my eldest has told me that she doesn't her jack-o-lantern to be "a puking pumpkin."
My son's a bit more open to the idea. Then again, he likes handling the "guts."
The most disappointing thing is that no one has ever commented about it--not one of the neighbors, nor the trick-or-treaters. Bummer.
Uncommonly polite neighborhood.
Almost English in their reserve, yes. At least as regards odd jack-o-lanterns.
Now if the young squires could just figure how to turn down their car stereos.
